Righteous Fashion are firm believers that creating job opportunities and business is one way towards a sustainable development in developing countries, given that the trade is managed with respect for both people and the environment. To us this is the most important part of what we do; to contribute to an authentic change for the people concerned through entrepreneurship and fair business cooperation based on dialogue, transparency and mutual benefits for all parties working in the chain of supply.
Within the textile industry – which often is located in developing countries – far too many people are working under inhumane forms, without the rights to decent wages, regulated working hours and the opportunity to form trade unions. The philosophy of Righteous Fashion takes off with the conventions of the ILO. The ILO is an agency within the UN whose main aim is to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities and to enhance social protection.
Righteous Fashion also believes that education plays is an important part in the equation for a social change, and as such it should be integrated in all efforts towards a sustainable development. Education influences peoples self esteem and possibilities on a personal level, which in the long run also increases awareness and responsibility within the production unit.
Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and build biologically diverse agriculture. Organic cotton is grown without the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.
Ecological, or organic, in terms of clothing means the materials used have not been sprayed with pesticides or other synthetic agricultural chemicals. But above all, an ecological production process means that the people who have made the garment – as well as your skin and your body – haven’t been exposed to dangerous chemicals.
Righteous Fashion works exclusively with Organic and Fair Trade certified cotton, as well as other natural materials such as organic certified bamboo, fine wool, soybean and soft cashmere wool. By using environmental friendly and azo-free colours and by embellishing the clothes with handcrafted bone buttons, not only is impact on the environment minimized but artisan skills are also embraced and encouraged.
A personal responsibility towards other human beings and their lives is one of our core values. That’s why we, in cooperation with our producers, work with several different certifications for ecology and fairness.
